Residents of Sub-Saharan Africa have the least access to modern energy services. In most countries less than 20% of the population has access to electricity. Over reliance on unsustainable energy systems negatively affects ecosystems and human health. Economic growth is required to alleviate poverty however growth is constrained by the lack of energy infrastructure. Meeting the rising demand for modern energy services in Africa, especially among the growing middle class, presents an opportunity for entrepreneurs, engineers, fro-profit businesses. Dr. Erik Nordman recently returned from Africa and is a associate professor at Grand Valley State University.
