Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s talent team, in partnership with the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition and Marr Professional Development Corporation, has launched 14 eLearning modules to provide a universally accessible soft skills training resource for the Michigan workforce. The no-cost videos provide basic and foundational skills for the state’s workplace to ensure future success and talent retention.
“As a need identified by corporate partners at the 2013 Governor’s Economic Summit, these Lifelong Soft Skills modules are accessible statewide in a continued effort to develop and retain talent,” said Michael A. Finney, President and CEO of the MEDC. “Raising awareness among students and employers is a primary goal, to suggest attributes and key skills that will result in their workplace success.”
Employers from around the state are already advocates of the Soft Skills Program identifying employee needs such as intangible skills that will increase productivity and harmony of their organization. Bright, talented candidates will be able to meet interpersonal standards in the workplace by completing Soft Skills training.
The 14 eLearning modules are split into four different categories: Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Creativity. Under the ‘Skill Development’ section of the Pure Michigan Talent Connect webpage, all videos can be found at mitalent.org/elearning-soft-skills-program/.
“The eLearning Soft Skills modules are essential tools for raising awareness and understanding of the importance of soft skills for workplace success. Both educators and employers can use them to supplement existing initiatives for students and employees, while individuals can learn about what employers are looking for,” said Naheed Huq, Leader of the Plan Implementation Group at SEMCOG.
