Is your small business looking to expand into international markets? Join Automation Alley for a roundtable discussion aimed at demystifying the exporting process. The event, titled “Grow Your Business Through Exporting: Tips to Get Started,” will be held Aug. 26 from 8-10 a.m. at Automation Alley’s Detroit office.
Noel Nevshehir, Automation Alley’s director of International Business Services, will be on hand to explain why doing business overseas not only increases sales but also enhances the global competitiveness of small companies.
According to export.gov, small to medium-sized companies account for almost 97 percent of U.S. exporters, but still represent only about 30 percent of the total export value of U.S. goods. Less than 1 percent of the 30 million businesses in the U.S. export. This means current exporters have a competitive advantage over their non-exporting domestic rivals.
“Many small businesses are so busy running their day-to-day operations that they might have reservations about doing business abroad,” Nevshehir said. “My goal with this event is to make these companies aware of the many competitive advantages associated with exporting, as well as the services available to help them succeed in international markets.”
Discussion items will include proven strategies companies can use to successfully reach international buyers and end users of their products, services and technologies, including:
• Market research
• Creating an international business plan
• Trade finance
• Supply chain management and logistics
• Resources available for new-to-export companies
The event will begin with registration and networking at 8 a.m. The program will follow from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The cost to attend is $20 for members with pre-registration or $30 at the door. The cost for non-members is $40 with pre-registration or $50 at the door.
