Some library programs are simply too cool to cancel. That’s particularly true for the Ferndale Library’s popular local music showcase First Stop Friday, a genuine live, loud rock concert inside an otherwise hushed and studious setting. The Ferndale Library has invited local bands to plug-in and perform for the public, free, for four years’ running.
But with the Library now closed on Fridays due to recent necessary budget cuts, the beloved local music program was facing a change. With a little reconfiguration and some clever renaming, the free concerts at the library will resume on Saturdays, starting Oct. 4.
Now, Start HERE Saturdays will be hosted at the library after-hours on the first Saturday of the month at 7pm.The format remains the same, with two local bands each playing a full set of music for an all-ages audience.
Kicking off this new round of concerts will be a new duo with some familiar faces. Dear Darkness, made up of Stacey MacLeod and Samantha Linn, describe their sound as elemental, combustible modernized first wave. Great Lakes Ghost is Dano Alexander’s solo folk rock project. Stripped down and brimming with haunting lyrics, his songs are drenched in Michigan spirit.
Start HERE Saturdays are run by Head of Circulation, Kelly Bennett. If you are interested in playing at one of the events, please contact her at kelly@ferndalepubliclibrary
