Friends of the Rouge has been selected to participate in the RiseDetroit Charity Challenge that began at noon, Monday September 15, and runs through Thursday October 30. The RiseDetroit Charity Challenge is powered by CrowdRise and funded by Phillip Fisher’s Mission Throttle and the Marjorie S. Fisher Fund. They will be donating $100,000 to Detroit based causes. The charity that raises the most throughout the Challenge will get a $50,000 donation. Second place gets $20,000 and third gets $10,000.
“Friends of the Rouge is one of many area nonprofits selected to participate in this innovative fundraising challenge and we’re delighted to be included,” said Aimee LaLonde-Norman, executive director. “We’re ready to rise to the challenge!” FOTR supporters can easily sign up to help raise funds at https://www.crowdrise.com/friendsoftherouge-risedetroit.
To commemorate their participation in the RiseDetroit Charity Challenge, Friends of the Rouge (FOTR) is kicking off the fundraiser with their promotion, Twelve Days of Rouge: Celebrating Recreation on the Rouge River. “The twelve-day celebration begins today and will highlight the many ways people enjoy the river,” said LaLonde-Norman. Everyone is invited to participate in the Twelve Days of Rouge celebration by posting their Rouge recreation stories, videos and photos on the FOTR Facebook page: facebook.com/FriendsoftheRouge with #RougeMI.
Throughout the seven-week RiseDetroit Charity Challenge, FOTR will conduct a variety of fun promotions, like Twelve Days of Rouge, via social media to help spread the word about the organization and this exciting opportunity to raise much-needed funds in an effort to win one of the grand prizes: $10,000-$50,000. Along with the online social media campaign, FOTR will host a number of off-line events as well:
Saturday 9/20 – Kayak trip on the industrial Rouge River, with Riverside Kayak Connection
Saturday 9/27 – Run 4 the Rouge, four-mile trail run/two-mile trail walk along the Lower Rouge Recreation Trail in Canton
