Though he is hands on with development organizations and councils, this is one of the few chances the public will have to hear Maurice Cox speak directly in regards to directions the city has taken so far in its efforts toward sustainability.
Business leaders, entrepreneurs, or anyone interested in discovering how sustainability will be achieved in Detroit and the surrounding area, the Southeast Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, (SMSBF), is inviting you to a Member/Guest Event on Friday, September 11, 2015,
Appropriately held and at Next Energy, 461 Burroughs St, Detroit, MI 48202, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Director Cox will discuss the latest ideas and plans for making Detroit a sustainable city. Past discussions have included the impact of Green Space, Historical Preservation, areas of development, and alternative forms of travel within the city including bicycles and walking.
Mayor Mike Duggan announced the Brooklyn New York native’s appointment to the important position on February 16th of this year in a press release on the city’s site, charging him with developing strategies to strengthen existing neighborhoods in Detroit and land reuse in largely vacant areas, including green infrastructure and urban agriculture efforts.
Previously serving as the Director of the Tulane City Center and Associate Dean for Community
Engagement for the Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans, Cox was
instrumental in the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority and the City of New Orleans. He also
served as a city councilman and held the position of Mayor of Charlottesville, Va., in 1996-2004.
