dedicated to the development of mind, body and spirit,” Its expansive facilities and programming provide a fun safe place for kids and adults to come and engage in wide range of wonderful activities.
In order to make sure the ‘Y’ remains an attractive destination that will continue to serve the Randolph
community, the facility underwent a major lighting overhaul earlier this month. Facility directors, in collaboration
with Hawkins Sales and Green Lighting Wholesale, installed state‐of‐the‐art LED high bay fixtures in their
gymnasiums. The 150 watt LED fixtures, manufactured by EverLast® Lighting out of Jackson Michigan, replaced the
outdated 400 watt metal halide units, and are expected to last nearly 4 times as long.
The upgrade is expected to provide significant energy and maintenance cost savings to the organization, which is a
part of the largest network of community development non‐profits in America. (The YMCA is in over 10,000
communities nationwide. ymca.net)
According to a spokesperson for the Green Lighting Wholesale, the EverLast® acrylic LED High Bay solution was
selected; “because an economically sensible solution that reduced cost and increased sustainability, while
simultaneously providing a significant aesthetic upgrade ‐ was important for Randolph.”
The benefits of the upgrade have not gone unnoticed. YMCA’s across the country have begun following suit,
selecting the EverLast® LED fixtures for similar applications. For an organization dedicated to providing an
atmosphere that promotes development and wellness, lighting is a critical piece of the puzzle. Academic and
industry experts are in virtually unanimous agreement that high light quality and safety go hand in hand. With the
potential deployment of new LED fixtures at YMCA gymnasiums nationwide, it seems the ‘Y’ will be poised to
remain a community staple for years to come.
“We’re always excited when our lights end up in places like this, we’re just playing a small part in a positive and important program. Having the best lighting products on the market is one thing, but in this case the lights become a catalyst for safety, fun and holistic development in a community,” said Alex Orr, VP of Sales at EverLast® Lighting. “Corporately and even just personally, we care about all of that.”
