Sadhguru, a realized yogi, world-renowned mystic, author, thought leader and promoter of environmental stewardship, is returning to Detroit on Sunday, Nov. 1, where he will appear at the Masonic Temple Theater, 500 Temple St., from 2:00-4:00 p. m.
As in his 2009 and 2012 Detroit appearances, which drew large crowds from all walks of life, Sadhguru, founder of the Isha Foundation, an international, volunteer-run non-profit organization, will inspire attendees with his wisdom, wit, and piercing logic.
Defying easy stereotypes, Sadhguru is rooted as deeply in worldly matters as he is in “Inner Engineering,” his powerful technology of engineering the self through the inner science of yoga. Named one of India’s 50 most influential people, he has addressed prominent global forums on issues as diverse as socioeconomic development, leadership and spirituality.
Unlimited possibilities
“We have reached a significant moment in the history of humanity,” Sadhguru emphasizes. “For the first time, we have the capability, technology and resources to address almost every fundamental problem on this planet, including concerns about nourishment, health, education and the environment.
“Never before was this possible,” he adds. “Everything is in place, but the only thing missing is human consciousness. Raising human consciousness in the world is the most important thing that needs to happen right now.”
Project Green Hands
These possibilities include “greening the planet.” The Isha Foundation has initiated many large-scale environmental and ecological programs, one of the most ambitious being Project Green Hands (PGH), which is addressing the tragic deforestation of Tamil Nadu state in the southernmost part of the Indian Peninsula.
This massive reforestation project aims to increase the state’s green cover from a mere 17.5 percent to an ideal 33 percent by planting a total of 114 million trees by the year 2016. In a remarkable launch, PGH planted over 852,587 saplings in over 6,000 locations in a single day, earning a Guinness world record.
Drawing extensively on community involvement and large-scale volunteer participation, over 14 millions trees have been planted, resulting in a 10 percent increase of green cover.
The project includes three “models”: Trees for All, producing saplings through nationwide PGH nurseries; Trees for Life, supporting farmers’ livelihoods by restoring self-sufficiency and reversing degradation; and the Green School Movement, creating “eco-consciousness” among school children through practical experience.
Awards
For its commitment to preventing and reversing environmental degradation and enabling sustainable living, PGH received the Indira Gandhi Environment Award, India’s highest honor in this area, in 2010. That same year, it also won an international Beyond Sport Award for using sports as a tool to make a positive impact on the environment.
Volunteers are excitedly preparing for Sadhguru’s return and invite everyone, including those interested in environmental and ecological revitalization, to attend and explore answers to life’s deepest questions from one of the most compelling mystics of our time.
Tickets can be purchased at www.IshaUSA.org/Detroit. Discounts are available for students and the event is open to ages eight and above.
