The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new full time Executive Director. An important position within our community, the ideal candidate is engaging, analytical, results-oriented and deeply committed to the area businesses and organizations.
The candidate must be well-spoken and enjoy giving presentations, thrive on challenges and enjoy watching their efforts come to fruition. If you a natural leader who enjoys working with boards and committees, collaborating with other organizations, and planning events with a goal to enrich the community and become an integral part of it. The following is a list of the responsibilities and qualifications.
Event Planning
- Ensure a high standard of media services and products are provided
- Coordinates events including, but not limited to, the Annual Awards & Recognition Gala, Oak Park Summer Fest, Rainbow Run, South Oakland Business Expo, Monthly After 5 Mixers, Coffee Connections, Monthly Lunch Club, Ribbon Cuttings and Grand Openings
- Assists the board in designing and executing new events to promote business and community
- Develops and oversees volunteer event committees in coordinating events
Membership Outreach and Retention
- Works with the board and committees to identify and pursue fund raising activities
- Manages membership retention and growth by planning and implementing a membership retention and promotion program
- Retains and increases membership by building relationships with existing and potential members
- Sets annual membership goals with the board and provide monthly updates
- Conducts an annual survey of members and report findings to the board
- Maintains online member directory and sells advertising for printed member directory
- Participates in community activities to promote a positive image of the Chamber of Commerce, including City Council meetings and DDA events as necessary
- Manages community outreach by developing and maintaining relationships with local government officials and other organizations
Financial Oversight
- Conducts Chamber operations including managing administration and finance
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget
- Procures all products and services necessary to operate the Chamber within budgetary limits
- Manages the Chamber’s accounting system including tracking receivables and payables; files tax forms as necessary
- Ensures insurance coverage is maintained for the Chamber
- Prepares agendas, financial reports and other information for monthly board meetings
Leadership and Supervision
- Possesses self-leadership skills; self-directed and thrives in a busy, fun atmosphere
- Detail oriented with understanding of consistency towards brand guidelines
- Supervises employees and interns while encouraging their autonomy
- Results-oriented, managing time effectively and productively
- Understands the role of the Executive Board and reports to them accordingly
- Assists the Board of Directors in setting short and long term goals for the Chamber
- Understands how to work under the direction of the Executive Board of the Chamber
- Oversee and update as needed board policies and by-laws
Marketing and Communications
- Proactively seek out media opportunities while contributing to strategic communications solutions
- Maintain an edit information for website and social media platforms using best practice approach
- Understands and assists in the implementation of social media branding on all major platforms including: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, YouTube
- Ensure a consistent style and structure of writing and branding in all media output
- Understands the importance of customer relations via social media interaction and implements organic strategies for community engagement
- Communicates brand strategies to the Board including print marketing, communication and e-blasts
- Issues news releases and letters to the media, members and public officials as necessary
- Works with volunteer committees to help develop advertising and promotional programs
- Provides branding direction and develops and executes brand marketing programs
- Manages public relations and marketing by developing newsletters and other promotional materials as necessary

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university is preferred with major course work in business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field, and
- Three (3) years’ experience in business or non-profit administration; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for year basis
