Are you enjoying the season of farm conferences? Are you cultivating knowledge, ideas and plans while the sun is shining less? I am just returned from a very successful Northern Michigan Small Farms Conference held at the Grand Traverse Resort. There were many happy and motivated participants of all ages learning about food, farming and health and sharing time together. Four members of the MOFFA Board participated either by presenting or through the MOFFA exhibit and book sales. Two other Board members are off at the Guelph Organic Conference also taking place this weekend.
A highlight of the Michigan farm conference season is the MOFFA Organic Intensives scheduled for Thursday, March 10 and the Organic Reporting Sessionscheduled for Friday March 11. Both events are taking place on the MSU campus at Brody Hall, across from the Kellogg Conference Center. The MOFFA Organic Intensives are a key part of how we fulfill our mission of promoting organic agriculture and the development and support of food systems that revitalize and sustain local communities.
We have three excellent Organic Intensive programs that will make it difficult for you to choose just one. Seed Saving, Wild Edibles, and Organic Certification for Field Crops are each planned to help you participate in the intersection of food, farming and health. In the following pages are detailed schedule, topic and speaker information to help you choose which session to attend. Please register early, enrollment is limited. If you are having difficulty choosing which program, bring family or a friend to attend the other sessions and share what they learned with you.
A limited number of scholarships are available so email us if the limitation to participating is the cost of registration. We also have some scholarship support from the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program for agriculture professionals and educators.
Sponsorship opportunities are available — details are provided on our sponsorship page. For more information please contact Dane Terrill at moffaorganic@gmail.com.
Please share this information widely. I look forward to seeing you on March 10 and 11.
