Last Thursday, April 20th, EcoWorks hosted their Earth Day Happy Hour fundraiser at MotorCity Wine. The fundraiser was to support Project Green Home Detroit, an initiative to help homeowners in Detroit save money and live more sustainably by making their homes more energy efficient. As proud media sponsors of this project we were thrilled to take part in and enjoy this great fundraising event.
From the moment we walked into the door we could feel the positive and fun energy in the room… Attendees could barely get ten feet into the event before being welcomed by one of the many friendly EcoWorks staff members in attendance. The room was buzzing with conversation, and If you had any questions about Project Green Home or EcoWorks’ other programs there was always someone eager and available to chat about the organization’s inspiring work. A fun donation station was set up on one side of the room with take-away materials about Project Green Home, and whenever someone made a donation they would ring a bell and everyone in the room would cheer, adding even more energy into the room!
In addition to EcoWorks’ staff members, the recipient family of this year’s Project Green Home initiative was in attendance to meet-and-greet guests and project supporters. Charlena Banks and her family have gone through tough times when it comes to housing, and they are more than deserving of the support they will receive through this project. To learn more about the Banks family’s inspiring story and how Project Green Home will support them, read our initial project story here.
All in all the event was a lot of fun, combining tasty wine and cheese with supporting a great cause and building community. This initiative has raised more than two thousand dollars so far, but the team still hopes to raise much more! If you were unable to attend the event last week, please considering donating to their crowd funding campaign here.
