Henry Ford College Board of Trustees President Mariam Bazzi Resigns
News Summary: Mariam Bazzi, president of the Henry Ford College Board of Trustees, was recently appointed to the Wayne County Circuit Court. As a result of her judicial appointment, she officially resigned from the HFC Board of Trustees on May 22. The Board of Trustees is seeking applicants to fill this vacancy.
May 25, 2017, Dearborn, Mich. — Since Gov. Rick Snyder appointed her to the Wayne County Circuit Court to serve as a judge earlier this month, Mariam Bazzi, president of the Henry Ford College (HFC) Board of Trustees, officially resigned on May 22.
“Mariam has been an extraordinary leader who epitomized professionalism and integrity. I am saddened that she is leaving our College Board because she will be deeply missed. However, I am happy for her as she begins the next chapter in her career as a judge. On behalf of myself and my colleagues at the College, I wish her much success in this new endeavor,” said HFC President Dr. Stan Jensen.
The Board not only oversees HFC, but also the Dearborn Public Schools. In fact, HFC is the only community college in the state of Michigan to be affiliated with a P-12 school district.
The Board has 30 days from the date of Bazzi’s resignation (May 22) to appoint a new member. Board Vice-President Dr. Michael Meade will chair the next P-12 meeting in Bazzi’s absence on Monday, June 12. At that meeting, per the Board’s bylaws, a new president will be elected.
Anyone living within the jurisdiction of the Dearborn Public Schools can apply for the vacant seat on the Board. Applications will be accepted from now until Thursday, June 1. All materials must be delivered to the Administration Building no later than 4 p.m. EST on June 1.
Those who are interested in applying need to send a letter of interest, a résumé, and three references to:
Dearborn Public Schools
Administration Building
18700 Audette, Room 6
Dearborn, MI 48124
The Board will review all of the submitted materials and after determining if the applicants meet the residency requirements, the Board will schedule interviews. An interview schedule will be determined based on the number of applications submitted.
Once the applicant is hired to fill the vacant seat, he or she will serve on the Board, finishing Bazzi’s term of office, until the next general election on Nov. 6, 2018.
