Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that Under Secretary for Economic Affairs Karen Dunn Kelley will also perform the nonexclusive duties and functions of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce under the Vacancies Reform Act.
“Karen has decades of experience in the private sector managing diverse operations in addition to her leadership of the Economic and Statistics Administration,” said Secretary Ross. “I am thankful to have such a qualified individual to fill this position.”
Kelley was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs of the U.S. Department of Commerce. As a senior member of the Department’s leadership team, she has provided counsel on economic and management matters to Secretary Ross.
“I am honored to serve my country by stepping into this new role at the Department of Commerce,” said Under Secretary Kelley. “I am deeply appreciative of the confidence Secretary Ross has placed in me.”
Under Secretary Kelley has 35 years of experience in the financial investment sector with experience managing people, strategy, budgets, operations, public relations and thought leadership across the globe. Before joining the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Kelley served as Senior Managing Director of Investments at Invesco, with responsibility for overseeing Invesco’s Global Core Equity, Quantitative Strategies, Asset Allocation, and Solutions teams.
Today’s announcement follows the retirement from Federal public service of Ellen Herbst, formerly Assistant Secretary for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, performing the non-exclusive duties and functions of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce.
