Project LIBERTY, the nation’s first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant to use corn waste as a feedstock, announced the start of production today. Once operating at full, commercial-scale, the biorefinery in Emmetsburg, Iowa will produce 25 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol per year – enough to avoid approximately 210,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy today announced that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) will provide almost $12 million to federal and state agencies to protect public health by targeting harmful algal blooms (HABs) in western Lake Erie. The funding builds upon the GLRI’s on-going efforts to reduce algal blooms and will be made available to Ohio, Michigan and Indiana state agencies and to the U.S. Geological Survey, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The 11th Annual Mayors’ Grand River Cleanup will take place on Saturday, September 20. Hundreds of volunteers will convene at Sixth Street Park in Grand Rapids and spend their morning removing trash from the banks of the Grand River and its tributaries. The Michigan Israel Business Bridge (MIBB) will be holding their first Ambassador Awards Dinner to be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Detroit Athletic Club. MIBB is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote business, investment and research opportunities. The organization is the premier resource for economic development between Michigan and Israel. MIBB will bestow two awards during the dinner.
