Earth Day Happy Hour: EcoWorks Fundraiser Delivers!

Last Thursday, April 20th, EcoWorks hosted their Earth Day Happy Hour fundraiser at MotorCity Wine. The fundraiser was to support Project Green Home Detroit, an initiative to help homeowners in Detroit save money and live more sustainably by making their homes more energy efficient. County Executives Share in the Oakland Schools 10th Annual Green Schools Awards Celebration

153 Public Schools, Academies, Private, and Parochial Schools were recognized on April 26th, 2017 at the Oakland County Intermediate School District Office Building this morning for outstanding achievement by the Michigan Green Schools.

In her final year as Coordinator and Project Coordinator for Oakland County’s Michigan Green Schools, Debby Dunn topped off her position with the successful celebration of the 10th Oakland County Annual Green Schools Awards Ceremony by having 3 of the counties top executives at the event.More

City of Southfield to co-sponsor Southfield Flower Day on Nine Mile Saturday, May 20

The city of Southfield will co-sponsor the Southfield Flower Day on Nine Mile on Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Southfield vendors located on Nine Mile Road just west of Telegraph Road.
Participating vendors will include 3D’s Gardens located at 24850 W. Nine Mile Road and Lavin’s Flowerland located at 24620 W. Nine Mile Road. Both nurseries will be offering special discounts to Southfield residents. A valid driver’s license or other form of I.D. will be required to receive any discounts for residents.
“Southfield Flower Day on Nine Mile provides the community with a great opportunity to shop for quality plants and flowers from several local vendors right here in town,” commented Mayor Kenson Siver. “Why drive downtown for flowers when you can beat the rush and crowds? This is a great time for residents to purchase flowers to spruce up their yards and neighborhoods.”
The event is sponsored by the Mayor and City Council to promote curb appeal and the beautification of Southfield. Many varieties of annual and perennial flowers and plants will be offered for sale. Members of the Southfield Parks and Garden Club will also be on hand at each location offering free gardening tips and advice.

City of Southfield to host 33rd annual Fishing Derby Saturday, May 6

The Southfield Parks & Recreation department will host the 33rd annual Southfield Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve, Ten Mile Road, east of Inkster.
 
The annual Fishing Derby will take place at a new location, featuring two areas to fish; both stocked with blue gill, bass and catfish. Contests with prizes will be held throughout the day. The event will feature a kid’s tent with games, activities and informational displays from the Friends of the Rouge River, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Eat Safe Fish program and Freshwater Forum at the Cranbrook Institute of Science. The Orvis Company will also be onsite performing fly fishing demonstrations. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
 
Participants are not required to secure a Fishing License for this event. All anglers are asked bring their own equipment and bait (a single hook with artificial or live worms is recommended). There will be a limited number of fishing rods for newcomers to try. The 33rd Annual Fishing Derby is a free event and pre-registration is not required.
 
Please note there is an almost half-mile walk through the woods to reach the lake from the parking area.

Leaders Connect Detroit Breakfast April 28 at TechTown

Metro Detroit entrepreneurs can network with some of the area’s executive level leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors at Dr. Rob Pasick’s Leaders Connect Detroit breakfast on April 28 at TechTown Detroit.

The event features a panel discussion with three superstar entrepreneurs, and an exercise in identifying your vision of success, both led by Dr. Rob.

The Leaders Connect Breakfast series was launched 20 years ago in Ann Arbor. Now Dr. Rob, a native Detroiter, is coming home. “We’ve gained great insight from the Detroit business community over the last 20 years, and are excited to have the program at TechTown this year,” Dr. Rob states.

Walsh College to Hold Scholarship Fundraiser at Royal Oak Farmers Market

Walsh College presents the first annual Spring Soiree on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.

“This event helps support Walsh College students and is a great opportunity to network with business professionals and to reconnect with alumni and former classmates,” said Andrea Richards, assistant director, Special Events & Donor Stewardship, Walsh College.

Guests will have the opportunity to eat, ask questions, and learn from beer vendors and wine experts. Vendors who will be attending include:

  • Brooks Brewing
  • Sherwood Brewery
  • Royal Oak Brewery
  • Hero or Villain
  • The Salt & Sugar Company
  • Chef in a Box
  • Eskimo JacksGuests will also have the opportunity to wine taste with the private collections of Van Conway and Bob Cummings.

    All proceeds benefit the Walsh College Scholarship Fund. The all-inclusive tickets are $100 and include a tax deduction for your 2017 tax return. Attendees must be 21 or older. Casual attire is suggested.
