Efficiency United has launched its energy efficiency program for the 11 Michigan utilities that opted to use a third-party administrator. On Aug. 10, the MPSC designated the Michigan Community Action Agency Association (MCAAA) as Michigan’s Energy Optimization Plan Administrator. November 19, 2009 – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG) Director Stanley “Skip” Pruss today announced that the state will award Michigan State University (MSU) $83,806 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) to install anemometers on five Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) towers. The anemometers will accurately measure wind speeds at three heights, allowing MSU to assess Michigan’s wind energy potential and encourage development of renewable wind energy.

Michigan Appliance Rebate Plan has been submitted to DOE and has been posted at www.michigan.gov/energyoffice in the ARRA box. Appliances proposed for rebates are Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier 3 refrigerators, CEE Tier 2 dishwashers, CEE Tier 3 clothes washers, ENERGY STAR oil furnaces, propane furnaces (AFUE 95%) and water heaters (EF>=.67), and ENERGY STAR solar water heaters. With the exception of clothes washers, rebates would not duplicate rebates being offered by utility energy optimization programs which include air conditioners, clothes washers, dehumidifiers, natural gas furnaces and water heaters, and CFL’s. The start date has not yet been determined and will be after DOE approval.
