The DTE Energy Gardens have Oakland County locations in Pontiac, Farmington Hills, Birmingham and Southfield. Each location has different days and times when volunteers may work.
The produce grown in the gardens is sent to Gleaners, which provides food for local families in need. In 2009, almost 18,000 pounds of produce was harvested, said Marc D Zupmore, DTE Energy Gardens project manager.
“In addition to feeding the needy, these gardens build community, teach people about horticulture and food, and provide a pleasant environment for exercise,” Zupmore said.
