Solar energy appears to be one of the most sought-after technologies for anyone who has plans to go green. In fact, solar systems are particularly eco-friendly because they don’t use any water and they don’t produce any substantial solid waste. Perhaps this is why Damon Dotson began his own business in the industry.
Dotson started Solar Works LLC with the help of his wife in 2007 with one main goal: to provide both residential and commercial consumers with innovative information on how to use energy wisely. The company is based in Whitmore Lake and specializes in several types of clean energy.
The company’s mission is “to help other people reduce their electrical needs.” They do so by offering four major renewable energy products, which are mobile generators, solar electric photovoltaic systems, solar hot water systems and wind power systems.
What really seems to make Solar Works unique is not only the plethora of clean energy systems they offer but also their desire to keep business local in order to promote the state’s economy.
“We sell and install solar photovoltaic systems,” Dotson said. “Actually, we are the only distributor for the Michigan-made Evergreen solar panel for five states.”
One of the most valuable things about solar energy is that they have a relatively quick payback and have many benefits for those who choose to install them in their homes. So keeping them local is really the icing on the cake for Dotson and his team of engineers, who feel staying local is vital.
“We really try to promote a made-in-Michigan advantage,” he said. “We’re doing the right thing by selling a Michigan-made product.”
An aspect that really seems to make Solar Works unique in its practice of solar installation is its opportunity for consumers to not just purchase mobile generators but to rent them as well. They’re perfect for powering up bands, providing energy for green weddings or livening up parties and festivals.
Overall, Damon believes in helping people achieve their energy-saving goals by showing them how to reduce or eliminate their electrical needs, which he feels is a big deal and a long-term benefit for the consumer and the planet.
“This is not just a quick little fix,” he said. “This is a long term thing, and you’ll be doing the right thing for the environment.”
