Jim Newman, CEM, LEED AP, OPMP, FESD, Owner/Managing Partner of Newman Consulting Group, LLC, headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, MI, has earned the Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) certification from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
This ASHRAE designation certifies an individuals ability to audit and analyze residential, commercial, and industrial buildings including determining project scope, collecting data, analyzing building performance, interpreting results, evaluating alternatives, submitting recommendations for energy conservation measures, and assisting with the implementation of these recommendations.

Jim Newman is Owner and Managing Partner of Newman Consulting Group, LLC, an EPA Energy Star and Rebuild Michigan Partner. He is a Certified Energy Manager, a LEED Accredited Professional, an Operations and Performance Management Professional, a Building Energy Assessment Professional and a Fellow of the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD).
Jim is an active member of many technical societies and is ESD’s spokesperson on energy and environmental issues. He is a member of the Committee that developed the 2008 Energy Policy Document for the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and is a trainer for ASHRAE Energy Standard 90.1, which forms the basis for the Energy Codes in most states. Jim is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and a provisional energy auditor for ASHRAE’s pilot program for the new Building Energy Quotient (BEQ) Program to measure, verify and certify energy used by commercial buildings.
He is one of the Energy and Environment Committee of BOMA International (Building Owners and Managers Association) and makes presentations to municipalities on how they can Green their cities and attract Green development.
Jim has published numerous papers on Indoor Air Quality, Energy Conservation and Green and Sustainable Development. He is an internationally recognized speaker and trainer on these issues and on Green Design and Efficient Operating and Maintenance practices. He speaks about Green and Sustainable topics on radio and TV, and gives seminars world wide on these and other topics related to the construction industry. His latest book, co-authored with two attorneys, Current Critical Issues in Environmental Law: Green Buildings and Sustainable Development was published by Lexis Nexis in 2008.
Newman Consulting Group, as LEED Project Administrators, assists building owners and developers to design and construct Green and Sustainable buildings, to receive tax deductions under EPAct 2005, ARRA 2009 and other federal acts, as well as rebates from states and local utilities, and grants from various organizations. The Group also performs energy audits and retro-commissioning to help building owners and the Federal Government conserve energy and save money.
