Dobrasevic Food Company (DFC) is announcing their new partnership with Jentzen Farms. DFC is a produce delivery company that specializes in fresh, local Michigan produce.
Jentzen Farms is a family run farm providing many fresh herb varieties to the Metro Detroit area. This partnership allows DFC to provide their subscribers with local herbs that will compliment the quality produce they receive year-round.
Dobrasevic Food Company is always looking for ways to bring their subscribers something new. They found that in Jentzen Farms. By forming a partnership with Jentzen, DFC is now able to provide an entire season’s worth of fresh herbs to their customers. DFC Vice President, Donna Webb, says Jentzen “has planted extra herbs just for us! This hopefully means that we will have fresh herbs throughout the entire Michigan growing season.” Webb also says, “Jentzen Farms specializes in specialty herbs as well as the herbs we are all familiar with like basil, parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme, peppermint, spearmint, etc.” DFC doesn’t just provide new items to customers, but also gives them tips on how best to use and store them as well. “We always include recipes for the items in the boxes and when we include herbs, the recipes will utilize those herbs. “ One other main reason DFC chose Jentzen Farms to partner with is their farming practices. The back-to-basics approach to farming is exactly what DFC was looking for. When talking about Jentzen’s horse drawn equipment, Webb said, “We think this is awesome, and how much greener can you get?”
Jentzen Farms is a 4th generation farm that has been doing business since 1936. Located in Monroe, Mi, They have 28 acres of farmland on which they grow a range of produce including peppers, heirloom tomatoes and broccoli. They also have 6000 square feet of greenhouse space where they grow spinach and lettuce during the winter months. What they are really known for is their wide range of fresh herbs. According to Brian Jentzen, family owner, they grow, “many varieties of basil, sage, thyme, dill, cilantro and oregano.” Jentzen also described their use of green farming practices. “We use sustainable agriculture. That means we have crop rotation, cover cropping and even horse drawn equipment we use throughout the growing season.”
After last year’s successful trial, DFC and Jentzen Farms made an official partnership. Brian Jentzen says they committed to, “expanding their operations 30%”, to meet the demand for DFC’s subscription base. DFC is excited about the partnership as it will allow them to provide a steady supply of herbs that will compliment the wide range of seasonal local produce their customers receive with their subscriptions. Donna Webb, DFC VP, states, “Great herbs are hard to come by unless you are growing them yourself. We thought it would be a great addition to add locally grown fresh herbs in our summer boxes. ”
