Meadowlark Builders, an Ann Arbor-based design/build custom home builder and remodeler, will showcase a home in Dexter on June 20 – 22, 2014 for the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor’s (BRAG) Parade of Homes. Tour hours are Noon – 7:00 pm on Friday, June 20, and Noon – 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22. Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase at all of the homes on tour.
Tucked away on a private wooded lot on a hillside, this home – simply named “Unplugged” – was built to take advantage of the serenity of the surrounding environs. The clients came to Meadowlark wanting to build a home that would take them away from the demands of their busy work schedules – a place to retreat and rejuvenate their bodies and minds, a place to unplug from the day-to-day stresses of their job demands. They also wanted a home that would be built to last, easy to maintain, and ultra-energy efficient.
“Along with a desire for resource efficiency and low maintenance, the clients came to us with beautiful pieces of artwork and furniture that they had very strong personal connections to and wanted to be able to enjoy in the home,” according to Doug Selby, Meadowlark Co-founder and President. “One of their grandmothers was a nationally recognized artist in Korea and they had pieces of the grandmother’s embroidery they wanted to have as key focal points in certain rooms. The trick was to design a cohesive layout that would not only incorporate these items but, would also make livable spaces that didn’t make you feel like you were in an art gallery,” adds Selby.
This Asian-inspired home is not only aesthetically striking, it is also full of features that make the home super resource-efficient and easy to maintain.
