Oakland University’s business incubator in Rochester, will be hosting a free entrepreneurial workshop on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. on the topic of compliance with data security laws.
This workshop is a continuation of OU INC’s Growing Your Business, Tools For Success series and will be taught by Kathy Ossian, Founder & CEO of Ossian Law.
In the wake of the Target and Neiman Marcus breaches, new data security laws are being introduced at both the federal and state levels. Beyond federal acts that address specific types of data, there are conflicting state data protection and breach notification laws. Compliance can be challenging. Ossian will navigate through existing laws, analyze pending legislation and offer suggestions on a practical approach towards addressing compliance.
Ossian has 30 years of experience in information technology transactional work and commercial litigation. She represents technology companies, including start-ups, financial institutions, for profit and non-profit organizations in agreements for the distribution and procurement of software, subscription based services, reseller and other distribution arrangements, web development services, maintenance and support and service level agreements. She also drafts terms of use and privacy policies for web sites and mobile apps and counsels clients on legal aspects of social media use, domain name management and other IT related topics.
Funds for this initiative were provided by the 21st Century Jobs Fund, a MSF program designed to accelerate the growth and diversification of Michigan’s economy.
