Oakland University’s business incubator in Rochester, will be hosting a free entrepreneurial workshop on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. on the topic of compliance with data security laws.
This workshop is a continuation of OU INC’s Growing Your Business, Tools For Success series and will be taught by Kathy Ossian, Founder & CEO of Ossian Law.
In the wake of the Target and Neiman Marcus breaches, new data security laws are being introduced at both the federal and state levels. Beyond federal acts that address specific types of data, there are conflicting state data protection and breach notification laws. Compliance can be challenging. Ossian will navigate through existing laws, analyze pending legislation and offer suggestions on a practical approach towards addressing compliance.
Funds for this initiative were provided by the 21st Century Jobs Fund, a MSF program designed to accelerate the growth and diversification of Michigan’s economy. The MEDC, a public-private partnership between the state and local communities, provides administrative support for the 21st Century Jobs Fund. The MEDC markets Michigan and provides the tools and environment to drive job creation and investment. For more information on the 21st Century Jobs Fund initiative, visit www.MichiganAdvantage.org
