SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, announces the public comment period for the Nonmotorized Plan for Southeast Michigan.
Bicycle and pedestrian (or, nonmotorized) travel is a vital part of Southeast Michigan’s transportation systems. For many communities, biking and pedestrian facilities improve quality of life for residents and make these communities more desirable.
The Nonmotorized Plan for Southeast Michigan will soon be incorporated into SEMCOG’s 2040 Regional Transportation Plan for Southeast Michigan. In developing the nonmotorized plan, SEMCOG is:
Creating an inventory of existing and planned facilities in the region, Identifying the most critical gaps within nonmotorized corridors, and Recommending regional strategies and actions to address nonmotorized travel.

Leading up to plan adoption, SEMCOG has held two sets of public meetings (total of 18 meetings) – last year to review existing paths/trails and identify locations of new projects, and this year to review draft findings and plan recommendations.
