The DEQ today announced the availability of about $180,000 in grants for projects to develop or update watershed management plans to restore and protect Michigan’s lakes, streams, and wetlands by controlling polluted runoff.
Local governments, nonprofit organizations, and colleges and universities are eligible to apply.
While all Michigan watersheds are eligible, watershed planning projects that will reduce phosphorus in storm water runoff to the Western Basin of Lake Erie and Saginaw Bay are a priority. Funded projects must result in a watershed management plan approvable under both state and federal criteria. Proposals also must include a minimum of 15 percent local match.
Full applications are due Sept. 1. The full text of the Request for Proposals, including eligibility criteria, priorities, and the required forms and instructions is available at www.michigan.gov/nps or by contacting Jennifer Van Port Fleet at 517 284 5531.
Additionally, a recorded webinar tutorial discussing the grant application schedule, priorities, eligibility, and watershed planning requirements is available at www.michigan.gov/ deqworkshopsby selecting “DEQ Webinars” and scrolling to “Past DEQ Webinars.”
