As the state agency with the duty to assure the safety of Michigan’s drinking water supply, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has been engaged with the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) since this issue arose last week. We understand the concerns being raised by residents in the affected area. The MDEQ is working with the GLWA to ensure the water continues to meet all federal Safe Drinking Water Act regulatory standards as well as ensure all necessary testing and safety precautions are taken to resolve this issue, and will continue these efforts for as long as necessary.
The MDEQ is dedicated to respect for Michigan’s citizens, stewardship of the environment, and support for a sustainable economy.
