The Zaman International Hope for Humanity hosted its annual Mother’s Day “ChariTea Brunch” on Saturday, May 6th at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan. This non-profit’s mission for the past twenty years has been to help hundreds of thousands of struggling women and children by “providing both urgent assistance and promoting self-reliance.” The lovely tea-themed event, sponsored by Retea, was $50 per person to enter with all of the proceeds going toward Zaman’s programs to help purchase food, clothing, and other basic goods for those who are vulnerable and in need.
There was strong participation in the raffle of over 90 beautiful baskets during the brunch. With each purchase of a $1 raffle ticket, the guests were given chances to win luxurious gifts, most of which were valued up to $250. According to Monica Boomer, director of community engagement and volunteerism for Zaman, “women are so important to the work that Zaman does, and this is the perfect opportunity to celebrate them. [They deserve to] treat themselves to this fun and relaxing event.” With over 90 beautiful baskets, all donated by various sponsors including Dearborn Pediatric & Adolescent Medical Center, Drug Max Pharmacy, Michigan Cosmetic Surgery, and more, the raffle is a fan favorite.
Michele Economou Ureste, Chief Development Officer, explained how “as it is inherent in the name Zaman, [which] means “time” in both Hebrew and Arabic, nearly 700 people gave the precious gift of their time to attend Saturday’s Mother’s Day fundraiser event to support the important humanitarian work of the organization to feed and provide workforce development training to those experiencing poverty in Southeast Michigan.”
Unfortunately, the Hope for Humanity Center located in Inkster, Michigan where Zaman provides their services experienced major leaking issues in their roof last week. In addition to the money generated from tickets for the brunch, many generous donations were offered for the repairs. The most affordable quote provided for the roof is $75,000, so any and all donations will help tremendously. If interested, you can donate to help fund their roof so they are able to continue their extraordinary work for those in need at http://www.zamaninternational.org/news.php?n=52 .
From the gorgeous venue to the beautifully inspiring messages behind the brunch, being a part of this event was truly an incredible experience. If interested, you can donate to their organization at http://www.zamaninternational.org/donate.php.
