Paragon Metals, headquartered in Hillsdale, is planning on expanding operations investing $19.98 million into the Hillsdale Manufacturing and Technology Park facility. The expansion will also fill the former Hartzell Veneer building on Industrial Drive.
Sue Smith, executive director of the Economic Development Partnership of Hillsdale County, said work is already underway inside the Hartzell Veneer building.
“That building is a good building, I wish we had more buildings like that in the county,” Smith said.
The investment will mean the creation of 50 qualified new jobs in the community. The company has been awarded a $250,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
The city of Hillsdale has offered partial reimbursement for electrical upgrades to the existing building.
“Since opening in Hillsdale in 2013, Paragon Metals has been critically important to our city,” said David Mackie, city manager. “With Hillsdale’s skilled workforce, Paragon has already created over 100 jobs using the latest automated manufacturing equipment, precision engineering, discipline and quality assurance.
“Now, Hillsdale is happy that we can provide the space, the infrastructure and the support that Paragon needs to expand. When I look at the map of Paragon Metals locations on six continents, I am proud that Hillsdale is the world headquarters of this high quality, high growth company,” he added.
The Michigan site was chosen over a competing site in South Carolina.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, City of Hillsdale, Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities, the Economic Development Partnership of Hillsdale County and Michigan Works! Southeast all worked closely with Paragon Metals to make the expansion happen.
“The EDP values the great working partnerships that add to the successful growth of companies like Paragon Metals,” Smith said.
Steve Arwood, CEO of Michigan Economic Development Corp., said its expansions like this that are a testament to Michigan’s growing economy.
“The decision by these companies to invest here rather than in other states means excellent jobs for Michigan residents and offers further evidence of our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents,” Arwood said.
Paragon Metals provides machined components for the world’s largest automotive, heavy equipment and heavy truck manufacturers. In 2016, Paragon was awarded one of 50 fastest growing privately owned business for the second straight year.

Muskegon County Airport Business Park

Inter Dyne Systems, Inc., 676 Ellis Road (Lot 9), produces stainless steel laboratory pegboards and glass-ware drying racks, narcotic security storage cabinets, stainless steel countertops. The sale of this property was completed in February 2017.
The purchase of Lot 10 will allow Inter Dyne to expand their operations. Interest was also expressed in the future purchase of Lot 13 directly north on the existing parcels.
