June 27, 2017, Dearborn, Mich. — Rhonda DeLong has been named the new Director of Marketing & Communications for Henry Ford College (HFC), beginning in early July.
DeLong, of Ypsilanti, has an extensive background in higher education. Most recently, she was the director of marketing and communications for the University of Michigan (U-M) School of Public Health (SPH) in Ann Arbor for four years. Under her leadership at the SPH, her team envisioned and created the brand called “Doing a World of Good”; overhauled the SPH website and social media efforts; published the nationally-recognized SPH magazine, Findings; co-created a national advertising campaign that focused on awareness and recruitment; created a video production initiative; and upgraded the overall marketing and communications strategy for the SPH. She and her team won several awards for their work on Findings.
In addition to U-M, DeLong worked for the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM), where she was the publications manager for seven years. She also worked for Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti for nearly 10 years, where she was the director of web communications and new media. She briefly served as the interim executive director for EMU’s marketing and communications division. During her tenure at EMU, she earned two awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) – Detroit Chapter.
DeLong earned her undergraduate degree in history with a secondary concentration in Spanish from U-M, and her graduate degree in integrated marketing communications from EMU.
“The distinctive HFC experience, focused on student success and imbued with the values of excellence, diversity, and inclusion is a powerful asset that deserves great energy and dedication. This is meaningful work. I am eager to take on that challenge as the College’s new director of marketing and communications,” said DeLong.
