The Southeast Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (SMSBF) is pleased to announce, “Being the Change”, the next installment on its Member Guest series. The event will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the Buell Management Building on the campus of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. Open networking starts at 8:30 am and the event starts at 9:00 am. If you are an entrepreneur, C-suite leader, top manager, frontline supervisor or someone who sees the purpose of business as something more than just generating profits, you will not want to miss this event. “Being the Change” is about B-Corps and how this growing business model is defining what it means to form and run triple bottom line – people, planet and profit – businesses.
For many, the idea of running a sustainable business is little more than an abstraction. B-Corps are changing this by providing business leaders a model that moves beyond abstractions to reality. From companies such as Patagonia, to Cascade Engineering, B-Corps are transforming our economy from a single – profit only – bottom line to that of the triple bottom line.
SMSBF’s presenters for “Being the Change” include Elissa Hillary, President of Local First, and Liesl Eichler Clark, co-founder and partner of 5 Lakes Energy. Elissa will provide an introduction to B Corps and will talk about her work with Local First promoting B Corporations and triple bottom line locally, and discuss using your business as a force for good in Michigan. Liesl will discuss why 5 Lakes Energy decided to pursue B-Corp certification and what the process entails, as well as the additional benefits of becoming a B Corp they discovered as part of the process.
According to Mike Shesterkin, President of SMSBF, “Our presenters for Being the Change not only understand B-Corps, they’re actively running them – day in and day out. Being the change will give attendees the opportunity to interact with business leaders who’ve taken-up the challenge to run businesses that are forces for good. Elissa and Liesl are not just talking about running triple bottom line businesses: they’re living it.”
