On Tuesday morning, December 5th, Bromberg & Associates hosted the 2nd annual Roundtable health care compliance discussion at the Macomb Community Action Training and Conference Center in Clinton Township. An answer to the problem of cost of training within the general workforce, Bromberg & Associates has created the Roundtable as a time to focus on the unknown answers for today’s business concerns. The discussion provided useful information to help with compliance, including VRI (video remote interpreting) policies and procedures.
The roundtable was presented by Bruce L. Adelson, Esq., CEO of Federal Compliance Consulting LLC. Several interested people attended the roundtable discussion that focused on website accessibility, cultural competence, communicating with deaf people and the best practices for working with three interpreting modalities. Bruce L. Adelson holds a BA in International Studies from The Johns Hopkins University and a JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Maryland, Michigan, Virginia, the District of Columbia, before the U.S. Supreme Court and numerous federal district and appeals courts.
One topic that Adelson covered to a great extent was implicit biases. “We all have implicit biases, it’s just what we do with them that is important,” Adelson said. Adelson opined that many people can be uncomfortable when working with transgender individuals, for example. However, culturally competent training and education help overcome implicit biases and stereotypes that can hinder health care. Courts have decided that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 can prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. With such effective training, Adelson explained, the “vast majority of cases” he sees could be avoided.
The Bromberg Team then made their way to the Staybridge Suites Hotel in Okemos for the convenience of the interested parties in Ingham County.
