The year has kicked off with the Plant-Based Nutritional Support Group having Dr. Joel Fuhrman speak last Thursday night at Groves High School with over 650 people in attendance. Founder, Paul Chatlin spoke with joy and enthusiasm about the changes and future events of what is now the worlds largest plant-based support group with a current membership over 4700 and growing.
Chatlin provided new information about the Transition 101 classes selling out, but the amount of opportunities for education and culinary classes will be increasing to 23 of each types of events, all taught and provided by 11 local physiciasn, all of whom are plant based diet supporters.
Co-Medical Director, Dr. Joel Kahn, dapperly dressed as always, came to the stage with a burst of energy, dropped to the floor and gave the audience several push-ups, prompting Chatlin to counter with his own version that included clapping in between pushes. Kahn recognized that it was not only the anniversary of the 4th year of the organization, but also Chatlin’s birthday, complete with song. Later, 25% of the audience responded to his question that they were new to the lectures and a stunning half of the people stated that they had seen health improvements
from their lifestyle changes to a plant-based diet.
Following guest Cheryl LaPensee shared her heart-felt journey into plant-based eating and the ‘angels’ she had met this past year, includeing Dr. Fuhrman. 1 year ago she was re-diagnosed with cancer, however, due to her lifestyle change, today she is 90 pounds lighter, and though currently on chemo tablets, she has never felt better and more sure of her health and wellness success.
Fuhrman took the stage with equal passion and fervor as the evenings predecessors and asked the audience who would like to make a commitment tonight to never have heart disease, claiming that the research and technology of today can irradiate heart disease completely.
Using the analogy of Superpowers, he stated that we now have the knowledge and power to make ourselves healthier than ever before and that the real superpowers that we process is the ability to have the radiance of superior health and to do good in the world.
Fuhrman’s talk was clear, candid, and no nonsense. Giving simple explanation to diabetes, cancer, and the counter-intuitive approach to how we treat disease was the focus, along with the topics detailed in his new book, Fast Food Genocide .
His Health Equation, Health Expectancy = Nutrients/Calories detailed how moderate caloric restriction in the diet is what gains life and how high micronutrients with low calories is the secret to living longer. He sited the 6 characteristics of Fast Food as:
- digested and absorbed rapidly
- 2. multiple synthetic ingredients
- calorically dense
- nutritionally barren
- highly flavored
- high in salt and sugar
He brought up the standard American diet, why the healthy standards for the body’s mass index, BMI, should be 23% or lower and the equation that show how only 2% of American’s eat a healthy diet.
It is certain that Fuhrman was not only a well-received speaker at the event, but will be a consistent addition to the future of the PBNSG.
Interested parties should be sure to get their tickets early for the February 28th event, highlighting the acclaimed, Dr. T.Colin Cambell, author The China Study, and be a part of his developing documentary on his Healing America Tour.
