The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Remediation and Redevelopment Division announces the publication of the updated Groundwater – Surface Water Interface Pathway Compliance Options Resource Materials and the Procedure for Requesting Calculation of Mixing Zone-Based Groundwater – Surface Water Interface Criteria. The publication of these documents rescinds Operational Memorandum No. 5 Groundwater Surface Water Interface Criteria, September 30, 2004.
The Groundwater – Surface Water Interface Pathway Compliance Options Resource Materials document is provided as a technical reference. This document provides information on each of the compliance options provided by Part 201, Environmental Remediation, and Part 213, Leaking Underground Storage Tanks, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. This document also updates information that was previously provided in Operational Memorandum No.
As one of the options, a person may demonstrate compliance with the groundwater- surface water interface (GSI) pathway by meeting mixing-zone based GSI criteria. The development of mixing-zone based GSI criteria requires a request for the MDEQ to calculate the values. The procedure provides information on how to request the calculation. The form for this request contains no substantive changes since its original use.
