U. of Michigan study finds more support for EE among local governments
According to the Ford School of Public Policy, local governments in Michigan are increasingly committed to pursuing energy efficiency. The survey found that nearly half had already taking steps to increase building efficiency. Of these, 72% are planning further improvements. Interest and engagement was found to be strongest among larger counties and municipalities. The full survey is available here.
Overall U.S. investment in efficiency has dropped
In contrast to the previous story, Utility Dive reports an 18% drop in spending nationally on energy efficiency during 2016-2018. Citing a new report, the article says that while federal spending on efficiency slightly increased, total domestic investment levels fell. A person interviewed explained that, “A lot of policies at the federal level are weakening. And on state level there’s been kind of mixed progress.” Follow this link to the Utility Dive article.
Michigan and Ohio Collaborate on Energy Roadmap
As reported by WLNS, Michigan and Northeast Ohio have published a Clean Energy Roadmap to accelerate clean energy in the region. Advancing technologies for building energy efficiency is among the core aims. In 2008, Michigan set a target to meet 35% of its electricity demand from energy waste reduction and renewable energy by 2035.
The Roadmap has already yielded three new programs to help meet this goal: (1) Michigan Match Assistance Program, (2) Clean Energy Business Development Pilot, and (3) the Michigan Cleantech Product Launch Program. To learn more, follow this link to the 69-page report.
MEECA member update: E3M Solutions wins USGBC award
The U.S. Green Building Council West Michigan Chapter held its Annual Party and Leadership Award Event in Grand Rapids on January 16th. Receiving its 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award was MEECA member E3M Solutions. In particular, the company was recognized for supporting the Students for Sustainable Designprogram and leading workshops on building and energy code.
