ESD’s Affiliate Council is coordinating a toy drive for children and families in need. And this year the need is great, especially for those families struggling with unemployment, illness and stress caused by the pandemic. Please help us make this holiday extra special for local children by donating to the toy drive.
We’ll be collecting unwrapped, new items including toys, hats, gloves, socks and diapers for all ages, infant – 18. Two agencies will be supported; the Methodist Children’s Home Society in Redford, as well as the Ennis Center for Children in Port Huron.
To make the toy drive as simple and safe as possible, we are offering an easy option for participating. Just bring your item to the ESD office parking lot and drop it off.
Toy Drive Date: Saturday, November 21 between 12 – 3 p.m.
Drop-off Location: 20700 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076, north parking lot.
An ESD staff person will be collecting donations in the north parking lot in an “ESD” designated parking spot near the building. Just drive up and drop off your donated item.

DTE Energy launches virtual student ‘field trip’ to Michigan’s largest wind and solar parks
With the shift to more online learning, DTE has created a virtual field trip to help students learn more about the urgent need to address climate change and the role renewable energy plays in reducing carbon emissions. The 27-minute video takes students to Michigan’s largest wind and solar parks to help them learn about how these clean energy technologies are built and how they generate energy as well as the many career opportunities available in the Energy industry.
While geared to 6th – 9th graders, the virtual field trip contains stunning visuals and animated graphics that can help everyone learn more about how clean energy is produced and how it travels to homes, schools and businesses. DTE has also created an educators’ guide for teachers that contains additional activities and topics for discussion and research to enhance and extend the educational value of the field trip.
