The students and staff of Royal Oak High School and Worry Free Outdoor Services need your help this Saturday April 30th for the 3rdAnnual Great American Mulch Out. Celebrating Earth Day and National Arbor Day we’re all getting down and dirty planting trees, weeding, and spreading mulch. In coordination with school Principal Michael Greening, Greg Rassel the Royal Oak DPW Director and The City of Royal Oak have generously donated 40 yards of double shredded premium hardwood mulch delivered on site.
The U.S. Air Force selected patent pending induction streetlight fixtures in an effort to reduce energy costs at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. According to Eglin officials, both energy and maintenance savings were critical factors in the decision making process, and due to strict limitations on were LEDs can be used, the Air Force sought out an alternative solution that was equally efficient. EverLast induction cobra head streetlights were deemed more cost effective and found to produce better illumination than LED streetlights that are currently commercially available.
Almost one thousand green minded people attended the second annual Green Leaders Award breakfast at DTE Energy’s headquarters in downtown Detroit on Thursday, April 21st. Attendees were there to network, celebrate local hometown green heroes and listen to Governor Snyder’s keynote on some of our greatest challenges in developing a green economy for our state.

The Detroit Food Policy Council (DFPC) will host the 1st Annual Detroit Food Summit – “Powering Up The Local Food System” on May 19 and 20, 2011 at The Historic Eastern Market, Detroit, Michigan. The cost is $20 per person with partial scholarships available. Registration for the conference will open in early April.
