Sustain Our Great Lakes Funding Opportunity For Green Infrastructure

Sustain Our Great Lakes (SOGL) is soliciting applications for competitive funding to restore and enhance habitat in the Great Lakes basin. Details about this funding opportunity are provided in the Request for Proposals. The submission deadline for full applications is February 21, 2017. Please note, the pre-proposal stage included in past years has been eliminated for 2017. Additional application information is available at.

In 2017, grant funding will be awarded in three categories:

Stream and Riparian Habitat
Coastal Wetlands
Green Stormwater Infrastructure – New funding category in 2017

The most recent round of Extended Sentinel Site testing for Flint’s water shows significant improvement with more than 96 percent of the samples at or below the 15 parts per billion (PPB) federal lead action level. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is considering a sweeping permit request by Nexus Gas Transmission for a massive proposed natural gas pipeline that runs from the Marcellus shale region of western Pennsylvania and West Virginia to and through Monroe, Lenawee and Washtenaw counties in southeastern Michigan.

The 36-inch pipeline construction proposal would have 31 wetland crossings, 88 stream crossings, and two pond crossings along the 47 miles of pipeline to be constructed in Michigan. The DEQ public notice seeks input on these proposed impacts on waterways and water quality under three environmental laws: Inland Lakes and Streams; Wetlands Protection; and Water Resources Protection.

MDEQ awards nearly $97 million to 137 communities for sewer planning

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) today announced the awarding of nearly $97 million to 137 municipalities to assist with costs of planning for their sewer system maintenance needs from the Stormwater, Asset Management, and Wastewater (SAW) program.

The SAW program provides grant assistance for the development of asset management plans for wastewater and stormwater, stormwater management planning, stormwater and wastewater project planning and design, and testing and demonstration of innovative technology.

This is the fourth round of SAW grant awards and is further progress toward funding the complete list of 579 SAW grant applicants. This most recent achievement now brings the total number of SAW grant applicants to be awarded funding to 478 and the total dollar amount of SAW grant funding awarded to approximately $365 million.
