Five TechTown companies received accolades at the 2011 DiSciTech science and technology awards hosted by Corp! Magazine on January 25 in Troy. The awards ceremony drew a large crowd of entrepreneurs who were congratulated on their outstanding achievements in science, technology and digital business innovation.
TechTown companies that were recognized include Angott Medical Products LLC, ApoLife, Inc., Clean Emission Fluids, Inc., Danotek Motion Technologies and MitoStem, Inc.
TechTown Executive Director Randal Charlton led a panel discussion at the awards show on the different approaches taken by early-stage entrepreneurs compared with mature businesses.
“It was very satisfying to see so many entrepreneurs from Detroit recognized,” Charlton said. “Corp! Magazine is a great partner for TechTown, and, as usual, put on a stimulating panel discussion which drew a large number of questions from the audience. Both early-stage entrepreneurs and established businesses emphasized one common issue – the importance of focusing on your core business.”
The event coincided with the publication of the latest copy of Corp! Magazine, where another TechTown company was in the spotlight. John Carlos, the executive director of GreeningDetroit.com, was featured for his efforts to establish a web-based directory that provides information on green products and services, renewable energy and industry standards for reduced consumption, and the health benefits of adopting green policies.
