Today, October 5, 2017, a growing network of advocates, companies, government agencies, utilities and others are joining together to showcase the benefits of energy efficiency as part of the second annual national Energy Efficiency Day. Check out the State of Michigan’s EEDay proclamation here.
As part of #EEDay2017, people are being asked to swap out old light bulbs for more energy efficient LED bulbs in their homes and where they work. How many bulbs have you swapped already?
Check out the campaign, on Twitter, Facebook and at https://energyefficiencyday.org.

The first PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program participant in Detroit and Wayne County is none other than the iconic Whitney Restaurant. With the help of Newman Consulting Group, The Whitney, a National Historic Landmark and favorite restaurant for Detroiters for more than three decades, is taking significant steps toward leadership in energy efficiency while also enhancing the guest experience. Projections have the facility saving more than $2 million over the 20-year life of the PACE financing.More
The Garfield Metro Building in Clinton Township, is the first commercial building in Macomb County to take advantage of new PACE financing. Expected savings will total more than $733,000 in energy use due to improved HVAC, updated LED lighting and building controls.More
Farmington Hills, MI. The Garfield Metro Building, a medical office building at 37555 Garfield Road, in Clinton Township, is the first commercial building in Macomb County to take advantage of new PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) financing that adds value to property through a direct increase in NOI (Net Operating Income). The PACE program, an innovative financing structure, makes it possible for owners of commercial, industrial, and other non-residential properties to obtain long-term financing at very favorable rates for energy efficiency, water conservation, and renewable energy.More
In 2015, Wayne State University’s Academic Administration Building, Detroit, MI, was facing many of the same concerns as other office buildings of similar age. Tenants (in this case University employees) repeatedly complained to building maintenance staff that they were “too hot” or “too cold.” And the costs of running the building kept creeping up.
As part of a DTE Energy and Nexant Retro-commissioning (RCx) project for no-cost and low-cost energy conservation measures (ECMs) with short-term payback, Newman Consulting Group (NCG) conducted an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Analysis and RCx Study on the building. We uncovered several opportunities that would not only make tenants more comfortable, but also save money. The DTE RCx program, however, dictated that any measures eligible for rebates from DTE under their Energy Optimization program could not be included in the ECMs implemented for this project, e.g., LED lighting, high-efficiency motors, or VFDs, to name a few. Still, we were able to make significant improvements.More

Let’s start with What is a Passive House?
Passive House is a building standard that is truly energy efficient, comfortable, and affordable at the same time. It first evolved in Europe about 25 years ago, where it is now common practice. Passive House is not a brand name, but a proven construction concept that can be applied by anyone, anywhere.More
