Organization’s Description

Founded in 1885 as the Builders Exchange of Detroit and Michigan, the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) is the oldest and largest construction association in North America. Based in Bloomfield Hills, CAM is a not-for-profit organization supported by annual dues and service fees. CAM is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, which is elected annually by over 3,000 member companies. CAM’s membership is comprised of general contractors; specialty/sub-contractors; equipment and material suppliers; and service firms (architects, engineers, attorneys, financial management, etc.).

In January 2008, CAM acquired the Tri-City Builders Exchange (TCBX), now named CAM Tri-Cities. Based in Saginaw and serving the Saginaw, Bay City and Midland areas, CAM Tri-Cities has had a proud history of providing quality member service for the Mid- and Northern Michigan construction community since 1955. The immediate advantages to both organizations’ members include increased Construction News reporting and coverage, greater statewide exposure, and reciprocity for plan room usage. With CAM’s acquisition of CAM Tri-Cities, it officially became a division of the Construction Association of Michigan, and its members will receive the same member benefits available to all current existing CAM members.

 

Michigan Energy Efficiency Contractors Association (MEECA)

What is MEECA?

The Michigan Energy Efficiency Contractors Association (MEECA) was formed in the summer of 2013 as a non-profit corporation operating as a 501(c)(6) trade association.

Mission and Primary Purpose

Advocate that Michigan has the most robust, reliable, qualified and predictable energy efficiency industry in the nation.

The Michigan Energy Efficiency Contractors Association (MEECA) is a contractor lead trade association created to serve our core members:  Companies that design, recommend, install or evaluate energy efficiency solutions in Michigan’s residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural buildings.

Additional Purposes

  • Increase the awareness of legislators and policy makers on how important the energy efficiency industry is for Michigan’s economy, the health of its citizens, its environment, and the sustainability of its business.
  • Promote proven technologies, products and practices that increase the energy efficiency of Michigan’s residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Support education, training and professional development programs that create, attract and retain a world-class energy efficiency workforce.

Committee Structure

MEECA’s committees is where the work of the association gets done.  Given the number and complexity of issues facing the energy efficiency industry the following committees have been developed in order to focus the appropriate resources and expertise on any given issue.

Home Performance Council

This committee looks at administrative best practices, sales approach, worker skill levels and products specific to installing residential energy upgrades.

Building Performance Council

This committee looks at administrative best practices, sales approach, worker skill levels and products specific to installing energy upgrades in commercial and industrial buildings.

Policy, Program and Legislative

This committee is focused on issues relating to legislation, policy and utility program design. It will leverage the technical expertise contained within the association’s membership to provide valuable insight on ways to ensure Michigan has a predictable and reliable energy efficiency market.

Professional & Workforce Development  

This committee is focused on the availability of a highly skilled workforce to serve the energy efficiency industry.  It will identify professional development topics and methods of delivery, as well as, ways to build the pipeline to meet the workforce needs of the energy efficiency industry.

Michigan Aerospace Manufacturing Association (MAMA)

Description: The mission of the Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association (“MAMA”) is to: serve and represent the interests of Michigan’s aerospace and defense manufacturing firms with a single unified voice; to provide educational programs and industry research to its members; and to promote the State of Michigan’s aerospace and defense manufacturing community within the global industry.

MAMA’s objective is to be the supply chain of choice that is recognized for taking the “costs out of cost” for services, manufactured components, assemblies and complete systems. We are designed to take the risk out of the supply chain by having the best in class suppliers for cost, quality and delivery. 

Southeast Michigan Regional Energy Office

Organization Description

Rising energy costs have strained already tight municipal budgets. Energy to operate government buildings, infrastructure and vehicles is a necessity, but its cost can be mitigated by increased efficiency. Reducing energy use and converting to renewable sources also means less reliance on imports and more money that residents can spend locally. It will also lead to a cleaner environment.

Municipal leaders in the region know what can and should be done, but, especially in the smaller cities, they lack the staff and expertise to identify and implement specific initiatives within their cities. Many energy efficiency or renewable energy programs also require significant start-up investments. By pooling recources on a regional scale, local governments can pursue efficiency improvements and renewable energy initiatives cooperatively, sharing both the costs and the benefits.

Organization’s Social Mission

To establish a regional energy office to connect Metropolitan Detroit cities with the tools to pursue efficiency improvements, reduce energy and convert to renewable sources.

Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce

Description of Organization

The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, member-driven organization with a membership base of more than 300 businesses ranging from sole proprietorships to the local offices of Fortune 500 companies, both from within Ferndale, Oak Park, and other surrounding communities.

Since 1936, the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce has been the leading advocate for an environment conducive to the success and growth of member businesses. During this time, members, directors, and staff have taken pride in maintaining a reputation for conducting business with the highest integrity. Each member of the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce agrees to abide by the Code of Conduct and Ethics upon joining.

Members of the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce are provided with tools to increase visibility, stay connected to the local community, and improve business practices. The most important tool is the support members give to each other from solid business referrals to mentoring.

Organization’s Social Mission

ETA is a not-for-profit, professional association committed to providing accredited certifications that meet industry standards.

The Electronics Technicians Association (ETA), International has developed an alternative energy certification program in several technologies including Photovoltaic, Small Wind, Hybrid Integrator, and coming soon, Commerical Wind and Electric Vehicle. There are two tracks available at the technician and integrator levels. Today, ETA has issued over 115,000 technical certifications in 70 different certification programs. These certified individuals are employed by more than 840 businesses/organizations across the world. The association is comprised of over 5,000 members, 625 Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) serving on various Industry Advisory Committees and 1,010 Exam/Certification Administrators (CA’s).

About Cheryl

Cheryl Buscemi is the manager of member relations at Automation Alley, where she works to engage members while increasing their return on investment. Additionally, she oversees the execution of the organization’s signature events, elevating the profile of Automation Alley through high-impact corporate events that draw hundreds of attendees regionally. With extensive experience in video production and live event planning, Buscemi brings valuable insight to the technology-driven membership of Automation Alley.

Prior to joining the staff of Automation Alley, Buscemi founded and managed My Media Resource, a corporate video and live events company based in Troy. The company boasts a strong portfolio of corporate clients, including MGM Grand, Nissan, Honda and DTE, among others.

Buscemi serves on the Board for the Intelligent Transportation Society of Michigan (a state chapter of ITS America), which is responsible for planning the 21st World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems event in 2014. The event is scheduled to be held in Detroit, where Buscemi works closely with companies, economic developers and local government officials to grow the technology economy of Southeast Michigan. She has served on the Board for the Oakland County Employment Diversity Council since 2001 and is a graduate of the Leadership Oakland program.

As an adjunct faculty member at Baker College, Buscemi also teaches professional career strategies to students preparing to enter the workforce. She has a long history of volunteering for a variety of organizations, including HAVEN, the Rochester Hills Little League softball program, and Avondale Schools.

Buscemi earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Oakland University and is a descendant of Cherokee Chieftainess Nanye-hi.
